The party’s National Chairman, Freeman Mbowe told journalists yesterday that officials from the Intelligence Department have been following and monitoring top party leaders throughout the day with intentions of establishing what the party has been doing.
Mbowe disclosed the names of the official as one Zoka and one Rama as being behind the plans, insisting that they have been organising ‘malignant’ acts against Chadema Secretary General’s Dr Wilbroad Slaa, Director of Information and Publicity John Mnyika and former Arusha Urban MP Godbless Lema.
Elaborating, Chadema’s Secretary General Dr Wilbroad Slaa said as a political party they have impeccable underground sources within the government system which informed them on the plans.
Dr Slaa said they are ready to be taken to court to testify over the matter since they have all the proof.
“Intelligence officers should stop following Chadema officials, instead they should concentrate on their responsibilities. We are always accused and wrongly connected with some issues including the doctors’ strikes…this is unfair because the doctors are demanding their rights and we have never asked them to do so,” he noted.

not hesitate to support people and stand by their side when pushing the government to act in favour of the people’s good.
In another development, Mbowe pointed an accusing finger at the intelligence officials saying they used torture against the ailing Dr Stephen Ulimboka to force him to admit that Chadema is behind the ongoing doctors’ strike.
“We are joining religious leaders who through their unity, have appeared to appeal to President Jakaya Kikwete to sit down with them and the doctors to discuss the matter,” he said.
Mbowe said they are not going to report the matter to the police because the force has not before worked on their complaints. He added: “We have not taken this case to the police, and weren’t crying for their help because we will be wasting our time since they had never before worked on any of our complaints.”
Meanwhile, Chadema Director of Information and Publicity John Mnyika, said he had information that there is a plan to kidnap and hurt him by poison.
Chadema Central Committee (CC) is scheduled to meet today to discuss the issues including that of security organs’ plans against their leaders.
When contacted yesterday Home Affairs, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, tersely said he would be in a position to comment on the matter after he had heard by himself what was exactly said by the Chadema leaders.
“I cannot comment right now, I will watch the news on television and thereafter will be in a good position to give my comments,” Dr Nchimbi said.
For his part, the Inspector General Said Mwema after being briefed by our reporter on the revelations by Chadema leaders of the plans and that they were ready to report the matter to the police he responded: “You are talking to his communication assistant…we will inform him (the IGP) for him to call you back.” The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander Suleiman Kova called this reporter to buzz him back after an hour, but when tried later he could not be reached.
